Bihar Yoga Bharati is located at the Yoga Vidya Campus in Munger, Bihar, 175 km from Patna, the state capital, and 500 km from Kolkata. The campus is situated on an historical energy centre, Karna Chaura, and is co-located with Ganga Darshan Vishwa Yogapeeth spread over an area of 5.5 hectares.
The site commands a majestic view of Mother Ganga as she sweeps through green paddies, fertilizing, energizing and purifying the surrounding areas. The river Ganga is the symbol of yoga, the soul’s journey to unite again with the supreme.
This site has been steeped in spiritual lore and spiritual energy through the ages. Karna Chaura was the seat of Danaveer Mahayogi Karna of Mahabharata fame. Bihar’s soil has been touched by the feet of Gautama Buddha and Mahavir and here Mother Ganga herself bathed and caressed the shining bodies of Sri Rama and other holy ones.
‘Bihar’ comes from the word vihara, which means ‘monastery’; it also means ‘to roam joyfully’, and indeed Bihar was once a place where many sadhus and saints roamed, immersed in spiritual consciousness.
