Ashram Life Experience

For national and overseas aspirants
Age: 18 - 60
Duration: Minimum 1 month, from 1st to 30th each month

Ashram Life Experience is an invitation to discover and experience ashram life. Sri Swami Satyananda laid great emphasis on the importance of ashram life, and his vision of this dynamic and creative lifestyle is followed at Ganga Darshan Vishwa Yogapeeth. Ashram life creates opportunities for self-discovery and exploration of new skills and life potentials. It is a place where spiritual teachings and precepts can be applied, experienced and lived with understanding.

Ashram life is based on experiential learning. Participants need to be ready for a dynamic lifestyle based on yogic principles. The day starts with a hatha yoga class before breakfast. Participants are then fully engaged in ashram activities and karma yoga. The morning ends with the chanting of the maha mantra. After lunch, everyone is invited to a yoga nidra practice. After dinner a communal evening sadhana of mantra chanting, bhajan and kirtan, audio-visual presentations is open to all.

Ashram Life Experience is a time to destress and disconnect from involvement with the world. It is an opportunity for personal and spiritual development. The ashram routine and principles are the basis and foundation of the yogic lifestyle, and are designed to help in this process and experience. There is no time for prolonged personal sadhana or indulgence in personal interests.

Participants attend programs and functions conducted in the ashram. Satsangs with Swami Niranjanananda Saraswati provide inspiration to everyone to walk the spiritual path. Personal guidance is not given as each one is encouraged to discover their own clarity of mind, resilience and inner strength.

Please note:

Ashram life is an opportunity to experience living in a different environment. By adapting and adjusting to a new environment, one can cultivate the qualities of simplicity and serenity. Simplicity is essential in spiritual life. The ashram allows one to live simply, and experience the physical, mental and emotional benefits of simple life. The ashram provides shared accommodation, usually twin sharing, with common bathroom facilities in the building. Males and females are accommodated separately.

All ashram visitors are encouraged to immerse in the serenity of the ashram lifestyle, cultivate yogic discipline and awareness. Therefore, mobile phones are not permitted and plug points are not available in rooms. However, the public phone service is available if required.

No photography /video/audio recording by any electronic media is allowed in the ashram, and there is no internet / WIFI facility.

Participants should be in good physical and mental health, and be ready for a dynamic lifestyle based on yogic principles. As the ashram is built on a hill, participants should be able to manage walking and climbing stairs for going for meals and different activities in the ashram. Simple vegetarian meals are served in the ashram. There is no facility to cater to special dietary requests or private cooking. Meals are communal and taken by all staying in the ashram at fixed times.

Participants should wear white kurta / dhoti / pyjama during their stay.
